Mader: “…recorded and mixed at Signet Sound studio in Los Angeles, late December 1998, “MORGAN FERRY” is one of my favorite scores: Deep South 50’s Americana..! I was going through a difficult time in my life. My manager at the time, Derek Power, loaned me his house in Santa Barbara so I could leave my problems behind, isolate myself, and focus on the film! So I left my home studio in LA behind, computer and all, and headed to Santa Barbara with just a guitar, melodica, mini cassette recorder, music paper, and of course the VHS rough cut of the film with visual time code. The bulk of the score was written there in a week..! For the wilder scenes (I was dealing with 3 rowdy characters, escaped convicts in a desperate attempt to save their skin at any cost), I chose to take a chance and improvise a few of the cues directly to picture in the studio, as I knew I had great musicians lined up for the session. The score was recorded and mixed at lightning speed, four days in all..!
If you like Americana, Ennio Morricone, Gospel with a touch of whimsical atmosphere, this soundtrack may ‘score’ with you. Enjoy..!.”
